What We Do: Leaking Jeep heater core replacement
Problem: Customer reported hot fluid spraying on their foot while driving.
Diagnosis: Inspection under the dash found coolant leaking from the heater core.
Repair: heater core replacement. Coolant flush. Coolant replacement. With this vehicle the entire dash assembly must be removed to get access to the heater assembly and the heater core. This is a big, complicated job!
Tips: Heater core leaks are usually caused by not doing cooling system service. The coolant should be flushed and replaced every two years. The additives which prevent internal metal corrosion wear out over time and quit working. The heater core quickly fails from corrosion. This damage is internal and can't be seen until coolant starts to leak. This very expensive repair can be prevented with regular cooling system service and coolant replacement.
Coolant hoses should also be inspected and replaced if damaged by worn out coolant. Coolant contains additives which protects the hoses from high heat and rot. Like the heater core the damages is from the inside and the hoses can fail without warning.
